Stefan G. Bucher is a man, according to his own choice of words, possessed. When a creative idea pops into his mind he cannot stop until he somehow makes it come to life. Fortunately for you and me, this includes monsters (Daily Monster).
Bucher is a designer, illustrator, writer and is also the gifted man behind Daily Monster. In 1996, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in advertising at the world renowned Art Center College of Design. Today, Bucher is the brilliant and creative mind behind 344 Design located in California.
The highly coveted and award winning designer’s clientele consist of a “strange bunch.” Bucher is sought out by “art galleries, film directors, a sculptor who’s starting a cappuccino business, independent design studios, magazines, and record companies.” He has worked on projects for Apple, Toyota, Honda and Motorola, in addition to designing cd packages for Sting and Whitney Houston albums and The Matrix soundtrack. Interestingly, when asked what his biggest career success is thus far, none of these impressive clients were mentioned (344 Design).
Daily Monster, in Bucher’s opinion, is his biggest success to date. The “ink exorcism” derived out of an odd encounter in which Bucher had during a particularly dark time in his life. Bucher recounts that while driving home, in the process of having his heart broken, he witnessed a monster clinging on his left arm, sitting there, smiling at him. He thought to himself, “I should probably draw it.” This is where the idea for Daily Monsters all began (344 Design).
100 Days of Monsters is the unique collaboration between artist and admirers. On November 19th 2006, Bucher posted a video on his Daily Monster blog in which he placed a few drops of ink on a piece of paper and persisted to blow the blot through a straw. Through a series of pen strokes, he persisted to bring the monster art to life. 100 monsters later, and a collection of passionate fan-submitted stories about each unique monster, Bucher had 100 Days of Monsters.

Above, is the cover of Stefan Bucher’s 100 Days of Monsters.
When asked in an interview, why he drew the monsters, Bucher answered, “this is all about there’s a little piece of the world, there’s a little slip of 8 and a half by 11 piece of the world that you have complete control over [...] since the rest of the world frustatingly refuses my absolute control [...] this is the little piece I can claim” (Design Matters).
The extraordinary book package, which you can purchase on Amazon, includes 100 beautifully illustrated monsters, their accompanying stories, a DVD containing a clip of each drawing, and a forward by Ze Frank (an American online performance artist based in Los Angeles, California) (Amazon).
You can purchase the book through Amazon and if you would like to learn more about Daily Monsters or Stephan Stefan G. Bucher you should check out both the Daily Monster blog and 344 Design.

i like the unpredictability of the monsters.
my favorite part is how he writes upside down. my brain doesn’t work like that at all.
His work is really unique. As for 100 Days of Monsters, so creative. Interesting article.
