Oh snap! Have you ever been caught in a dilemma where you are surrounded by man eating zombies? Zombie mayhem in which you have the ability to leisurely access the internet before the undead come tearing through your barricaded front door. Yeah, me neither. But, if you do have a few seconds of down time before the double bolted locks burst open, Hunch.com is probably your best bet at surviving the unlikely, yet extremely unfriendly encounter.
Hunch, which was officially made public June 15, 2009, was started by Caterina Fake, co-founder of Flickr.com, and a resourceful eleven person team of MIT graduates (aka smart people). The intelligent site utilizes a decision analysis tree algorithm, a series of interest questions for the inquirer, and the collaborative feedback of users to reach the optimal decision or “hunch” for the posed question.
So basically, why spend your time considering obvious, logical, moral, ethical, or life changing decisions when you can have Hunch do the deciding for you?
Should I throw down rock, paper or scissors? Who should I vote for? What car should I buy? Should I get married? Should I go to bed? Should I do my homework? Should I take a shower? Does my breath stink? And yes, many many more questions to your curiosity’s content.
Hunch is always there for you. Just simply answer 10 quick questions (sometimes less) and Hunch will generate a personalized answer. …pretty simple.
So now back to the zombie madness. I asked Hunch “How should I kill this Zombie?” I was then asked a series of questions concerning my weaponry at hand, my skill level at killing zombies (high or low) and the number of zombies in my vicinity.
Hunch then gave me a series of three useful courses of action (and a fourth Wild Card option):

So, run is exactly what I did! Here, try out your zombie luck (Should I kill this zombie?). Anyway, it’s a clever and well designed site. Although, the questions you can ask are limited to what the site has been programed to allow there is still an extensive and varied selection to choose from. With the website being so new, there is definitely room for improvement, but it certainly has a creative niche that calls attention to itself.
My Review: I give Hunch.com a solid B for entertainment value, but it seriously lacks real world practicality. Well, at least for now. My hunch is that the site will end up sending society into a tailspin nose dive straight into a real world representation of the film Idiocracy.
