Imperial Majesty- The World’s Most Expensive Perfume

Imperial Majesty- The World’s Most Expensive Perfume

Clive Christian is the fine maker of Imperial Majesty. 17 fl oz (500 mL) of pure irresistible lust for him and her. A scent with a price tag of $215,000 a bottle. “[...] presented in a hand crafted bacarrat crystal bottle with 5 carat brilliant cut diamond adornment.” Oh yeah… and I should probably mention that asking for it to be gift wrapped might just be a tad bit overkill when it comes personally escorted to your home in a Rolls-Royce (Clive Christian).

Clive Christian started his business at the age of 26 as a very reputable UK furniture designer. Then in 1999 Christian decided to dabble in perfumes and colognes. He started off the line with “three feminine and three masculine fragrances [...] known for their quality and luxuriousness.” From there the company quickly garnered its reputation for fine goods or in other words, $@#% that’s expensive! (Victoria Christian)

I happened to stumble upon the grotesquely extravagant perfume line by Clive Christian while thumbing through the latest volume of “Guinness World Records 2009.” The title read in thick black Franklin Gothic typeface

Now, you and I can both agree that one is not spending mere pocket change on a 200 grand bottle of Imperial Majesty. Still, out of curiosity, I decided to crack some numbers in order to soak in the monetary value of each spray of the fragrance. As a result, I borrowed some figures arrived at by a study posted by blogger Kevin on NowSmellThisPerfume Blog (ntsperfume.com).

In Kevin’s experiment, he filled three different empty 50 mL perfume bottles with water to test how many sprays on average a perfume bottle can perform before it is depleted of its contents. Obviously, the results will vary slightly do to a gamut of variables, but on average Kevin got 735 sprays per bottle. Now using these little science project findings, I applied them to the 500 mL of Imperial Majesty and found out that each spray is worth around $29 (see calculations below). Wow!

I am guessing, on average, individuals use around three applications of their perfume or cologne when they get dressed up. Therefore, it probably would not be too outrageous to assume that every time these women or men have a night out, they are wearing around $90 dollars of fragrance. After being left in awe over the sheer cost of the perfume, I decided to peruse the elegant Clive Christian Web site where I could not help, but add Imperial Majesty to my check out basket just for kicks.

So, if you can’t help yourself like me and feel the urge to get a glimpse of what it might feel like to be bankrupt, head over to the elegant Clive Christian Web site where you can, with a grin, add Imperial Majesty to your checkout basket.

Calculations:
500 mL Imperial Majesty / 50 mL sample = Imperial Majesty’s volume is 10 times that of a 50 mL sample. 10 x 735 squirts (Kevin’s experiment for 50 mL bottle) = 7,350 squirts to finish off all 500 mL of Imperial Majesty. From there you can divide the $215,000 / 7,350 squirts and you get a little over $29 per spray.
($29 x 3 is approximately $90)
