Created by Captive animation studio, this quirky short animation To Russia, With Love was created to welcome a new exhibition of customized Russian Matryoshka dolls entitled ‘Pockoshko’ (those stacking dolls that are usually painted like little Russian ladies). These dolls are being produced by a studio named Pocko, a self-proclaimed “independent press for artists and visionaries to explore and collaborate on paper and online.” The dolls will be showcased at bookstores across London as part of the London Design Festival, then auctioned off to raise money for a Russian children’s charity.
In order to commemorate their appearance in bookstores, Pocko turned to studio Captive to create something animated that would be able to accompany their touring exhibition of the dolls. The animation is a depiction of the journey of the Matryoshkas set to music from a soundtrack that was composed and performed by two great talents of Shervin Shaeri and Jamie Masters. Captive was asked to create a video that fit the feel of the music, while still depicting the title stylistically. This is what they came up with (and I think it’s pretty awesome, cute, and fun!)
